The electricity sector in India had an installed capacity of 248.510GW as of end May 2014.Non Renewable Power Plants constitute 87.55% of the installed capacity, and Renewable Power Plants constitute the remaining 12.45% of total installed Capacity. The nation's per capita consumption is 883.6kwh. As of feb'13, All India demand of 72977GWhr faced 8.4% deficit and only 66811GWhr was available. India currently suffers from a major shortage of electricity generation capacity, even though it is the world's fourth largest energy consumer after United States, China and Russia. Due to rapid economic expansion, India has one of the world's fastest growing energy markets and is expected to be the second-largest contributor to the increase in global energy demand by 2035.
